Traveling to a new country to teach is an important decision. I decided to do it back when I was studying abroad. In the spring of 2019, I was given the opportunity to travel to Andalucía which is southern Spain. I took university level Spanish classes at UCOidiomas in a small city called Cordoba. I met so many great people from all around the world and made Spanish friends. I loved the lifestyle and culture so much, I decided I would return after graduation.

I began to continually check the website until the application opened.  It was called the Language and Culture Assistant program where people from English speaking countries can go to Spain for eight months and help the English teachers. It is possible to be working with children from K-12. I was assigned third to sixth graders.

The application typically opens up in the beginning of the year. For me, the application was open from January-April. Now, applying is the easy part, but constantly waiting for a response is a little overwhelming. I did not receive my response until June.  When you apply, there is a program called PROFEX that you use to submit your application. Thankfully, the website has step by step instructions so that you know what to do.

In order to be eligible for the program, you need to have a U.S or Canadian passport, and have earned a Bachelor's degree (any major, does not have to be English).

They will also request a background check and a letter of recommendation.

What I liked about the application is that it allows you to choose your top three provinces that you want to work in. I was placed in Andalucía which was my top choice.
