I did not receive my visa until October 1st, which was when my program started. Therefore, I had to book my flights last minute. I did not want to book them ahead of time and not have my visa ready. Since I was flying three days after my visa, flights were pretty expensive such as $1,036 for ONE-WAY, not even roundtrip flying out of LAX to Sevilla. My friend, Mario, recommended that I fly out of different international airports which was very helpful. Both JFK and Miami had cheaper flights to Spain. So, instead I decided to fly to Miami and from there to Madrid and then take a train to Sevilla. These were the costs:
LAX-MIA: $121.10
-There was a $30 fee for a checked bag.
MIA-MAD: $354
-This included checked bags.
Madrid-Sevilla by train: $95
Sevilla train station to Airbnb: $10
All together, I spent $610 as opposed to the $1,035 I would have spent on a one way ticket.
For my flight from LAX to Miami I flew with American Airlines. For my flight from Miami to Madrid, I flew with Iberia.
