Today, I woke up early and went to get my COVID-19 test in order to return to school and teach English. When I arrived at the center, I had an appointment scheduled by my coordinator. It was pretty quick, easy, and painless. The doctor merely took out a couple drops of blood and tested it. A short while later, my results came back NEGATIVE! Woohoo, so I decided to continue to school. Once I got there, I was told today that I would be working with a young girl from England who is still struggling to get accustomed to Spanish life. She was merely in 4th grade, and I definitely could understand where she was coming from. Later, I went to another classroom where the students continued to ask me questions about where I am from, my favorite color, food, etc. Then, as I was leaving the school, all of the children kept saying, "Hello," to me and it was so welcoming. I felt famous.
Afterwards, I headed towards the bus, which would not come for another hour and a half. This is because the school is in a small town (pueblo) where the buses only come every two hours. As I was walking, I passed by a church which I see every time, but this time they were decorating it. The church was called Nuestra Señora de la Estrella which translates to Our Lady of the Star. I decided to ask one of the volunteers why they were decorating and why tomorrow, Friday would be a holiday, but only in my town, not the entire country. The holiday is called Romería de Torrijos and is celebrated the second Sunday of October. Typically, there would be a procession, but due to COVID-19 safety concerns, they decided they will do a mass outside at 10am on Sunday instead.
Afterwards, I went to el Corte Ingles which is a grocery shop to get some basic necessities for cooking. I bought olive oil, bread, lettuce, mayo, ketchup, salt, Pepsi, pita bread, pizza, Tupperware, wheat toast crackers, and spaghetti all for ONLY 23€. After lunch, it was finally siesta time! Taking naps or simply relaxing to get energized to continue the day.
Then, I decided to continue my shopping. I passed by ZARA, H&M, Decathlon, and BERSHKA!
