As the United States of America continues to count absentee ballots and mail in ballots, 2020 is a year full of unexpected events. This year's presidential candidates are Joe Biden for the Democrats, Donald Trump for the Republicans, and Jo Jorgensen for the Libertarian Party. The votes are very close between President Trump and Biden and some say that the results may not come in until Friday.

Living abroad and having to stay updated with what is happening in the United States is an interesting experience. Since there is a time difference, I was asleep for most of the results, but when I woke up, there were still a few states whose votes were not placed yet including Wisconsin, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, and Alaska. With the votes being so close, these states are going to be major in deciding if President Trump continues another four years or if Joe Biden will become America's next president. For updates, I downloaded the Gaurdian's application on my phone. It is available for both Android and iPhone. It updates every fifteen seconds so that you can stay up to date with everything happening live.

Voting is such an essential part of being a citizen and being abroad does not mean you can't, or shouldn't vote. If you are living abroad there are multiple ways to vote including mailing in your ballot, faxing it, or even emailing it. Check out this website: Vote from Abroad in order to get your ballot. I strongly recommend doing it as soon as possible so that your vote is received and counted in time for the election.  Make sure you are a registered voter and are voting in the correct state/ jurisdiction.
